Ping Yi , Ph.D., P.E.
Dr. Ping Yi obtained his Ph.D. from University of Minnesota and M.S. from Washington State University. His research interest
includes traffic operation and control, transportation system analysis, traffic safety, advanced information systems and technologies,
and other ITS applications.
Before joining academia, Dr. Ping Yi had worked in the GUIDESTAR Office of the Minnesota Department of Transportation
for four years as an ITS Principal Engineer/Research Scientist, where he was involved in project design, implementation, testing,
and management. He managed a number of FHWA and MNDOT sponsored projects including Detection Technology for ITS , DIVERT,
Advanced Urban Signal Control and Integration, Advanced Parking Information System , etc.
Dr. Yi is a registered civil engineer. He has served the National Research Council, ITS-IDEA Program, Expert Panel and
is a member of the TRB Committee on Information Systems and Technology. He is a member in many professional societies including
Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), Sigma X, and Intelligent Transportation
Society (ITS).
Dr. Yi has published numerous papers in professional journals including TRR, Transportation Research, ASCE, Environment
and Planning A, European Journal of Operations Research, ITE Journal, Journal of Mathematical and Computer Modeling, ITS Journal,
IATSS RESEARCH, etc.
Dr. Yi has been a long time NACOTA advocate and supporter. He has organized and assisted in a number of NACOTA activities
including annual meeting, workshop, technical conference, and concerning membership, bylaw, and organizational management.
Statement
Since its inception, NACOTA has been serving very well many needs of the Chinese transportation community. I would be happy
to contribute to NACOTA for its continued growth and service to its members. If elected I will work with the board to further
develop the organization and meet the challenges facing the organization today.
