Mei Chen, Ph.D.

Dr. Mei Chen is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at University of Kentucky. Her job involves teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and conducting research in various areas such as transportation network analysis, traffic monitoring and data analysis, as well as land use and transportation planning. She received her Ph.D. in Transportation from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1999, and Master's degree in Transportation Engineering as well as Bachelor's degree in Material Engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University in China.

Prior to joining the faculty of University of Kentucky in early 2002, Dr. Chen was a visiting assistant professor at the National Center for Transportation and Industrial Productivity and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology for one year. She also worked as a principal planner for the New Jersey Center for Transportation Information and Decision Engineering for two years.

Dr. Chen was a lecturer in the Department of Transportation Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University between 1992 and 1995, during which she participated in various research projects to improve the traffic condition in Chinese Cities. Currently, she is collaborating with researchers and urban planning departments in several cities in China on promoting bus rapid transit.
